Overview

Docketwise provides instantaneous status information based on the Petition's/Application's USCIS receipt number(s).

In addition to being able to track the status in real-time, you are also able to share the Receipt Number Tracking information with your clients via the client portal.

Adding a Receipt Number

To track the status of petition or application filed with USCIS in real time, you will need to follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to the Matter related to the USCIS Receipt(s) received

  2. From the Matter's Overview Page click the Case Tracking tab

  3. Click the + Add Receipt button

  4. Enter the USCIS Receipt Number as it appears on the Receipt Notice

  5. Indicate the Form to which the USCIS Receipt Number is associated under Description* (Optional)

  6. Click the Add Receipt button


Tracking a Petition's/Application's Status with USCIS

You can track a petition's/application's status with USCIS from a matter/contact overview page to see the status of one contact/matter at a time.

Additionally, you can view the petition/application statuses of multiple matters at a time from the matters index or from a matters report.

USCIS Case Status Updates

You can use Docketwise to easily check whether or not there have been any updates on matters' USCIS case status.

Manual Checks for Updates

In order to manually check for USCS case status updates, you will need to follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to the matter for which you wish to check for USCIS case status updates

  2. Select the Case Tracking tab

  3. Click the Update button for the receipt number you wish to check

After clicking on the Update button, Docketwise will see if there has been any update since the status was last checked and will update the status in Docketwise if it has changed.

Automatic Checks for Updates

Docketwise will also automatically check for updates behind the scenes for you! Based on your account's subscription plan, update checks will be made with the following frequencies:

  • Basic - No auto-checks are run

  • Pro - Receipts are auto-checked once per week (updated on Saturdays)

  • Advanced - Receipts are auto-checked once per day

Update Notifications for Automatic Checks

If any changes are detected in a matter's USCIS case status, an email and in-app notification will be sent to the assignees of the matter under which the USCIS receipt number was entered.

Note: You must be assigned to a matter as a matter assignee in order to receive these notification updates.

From the Matter/Contact Overview Page

Once a USCIS Receipt Number is entered, you are able to track its progress from the Matter Overview Page or on the Contact Overview Page of the Matter's Primary Contact.

From within the Case Tracking tab of the Matter Overview Page or the Contact Overview Page for the Matter's Primary Contact, you can see last updated status of the Petition's/Application's status with USCIS.

Additionally, you are able to click on the linked text under the Case Status to be taken to USCIS's Case Status website. There, you are able to see the date that USCIS updated its status and additional details.

From the Matters Index

In addition to viewing the USCIS receipt number case tracking status on the matter/contact overview page, you can also view this for your matters from the matters index by adding USCIS Receipts column.

Sharing USCIS Receipt Number Tracking to a Client's Portal

First, we need to make sure that the client is set up with access to their Client Portal. If you have not done so yet, click here to learn more about creating a Client Portal for your client.

In order to share Receipt Number Tracking, you will need to follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to your Matter's Overview Page (or the Contact Overview Page of the Matter's Primacy Contact)

  2. Click the Case Tracking tab

  3. Click the Share icon to the right for the receipt number for the case tracking status that you would like to share

  4. In this dialogue box, make sure that you have selected the correct client, then click the Submit button


Searching by USCIS Receipt Number

To easily locate and navigate to a specific contact or matter in Docketwise, you can search by the USCIS receipt number related to the application/petition. This works both by using the universal search bar or the search bar for each the contact and matter index.

After you enter in the USCIS receipt number (or part of it) into the universal search bar, matching results will show for both the matter associated with the receipt number as well as primary contact associated with that matter.

From the Contacts/Matters Indices

Similarly, after you enter in the USCIS receipt number (or part of it) into the search bar on either the contact or matter index, matching results will show for both the matter associated with the receipt number as well as primary contact associated with that matter.
