Notes in Docketwise help you keep track of the progress of your case and

You can create new notes from your Notes Dashboard, a Contact's overview page, or a matter's overview page. Simply type your note and hit the Enter key.

By default, notes are assigned to the user that creates them. However, you can assign a note to any staff member at your firm by adding the staff member as an assignee.

Creating a Note

You can create new Notes from your Notes Dashboard, a Contact's overview page, or a Matter's overview page.

In order to create a Note, you will need to follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to the Notes Dashboard or the Notes tab of a Contact's or Matter's Overview page

  2. Click the Add Note button

  3. Enter a title for the note (optional)

  4. Enter the content for your note

  5. Select the Contact, Matter, and Assignee(s) related to your note.

  6. Select the category for your note (optional)

  7. Click the Add Note button

Note: If you wish to notify all members of your firm of the note (regardless of notification settings), you can check the box to do so before creating the note.


Assigning a Note to a Firm Member

By default, notes are assigned to the user that creates them. However, you can also assign a note to any firm other member.

In order to assign a note to another firm member, you will need to follow the steps below:

  1. Locate the note that you would like to assign

  2. Click the note's assignee(s)

  3. Click in the blank space of the assignee field

  4. Select the firm member that you would like to assign to the note

  5. Click the Update button

Note: If you wish to remove an assignee, you can click the X next to the firm member's name after step 2.


Updating a Note's Contact/Matter

A note's assigned contact/matter may be updated after it has been created.

  1. If you create a new note from the Notes Dashboard, it will not be assigned to a contact or matter.

  2. If you create a note from the Notes tab of a Contact Overview Page, it will automatically be assigned to that contact.

  3. If you create a note from the Notes tab of a Matter Overview Page, it will automatically be assigned to that matter its assigned primary contact.

In order to update a note's assigned contact/matter, you will need to follow the steps below:

  1. Locate the note for which you would like to update the note's assigned contact/matter

  2. Click the Set a Client option or the note's assigned contact (if one is already assigned)

  3. Select the contact/matter that you would like to assign to the note

  4. Click the Update button


Note Categories

Notes have four pre-made categories, which are: Government Action, Memo, Meeting, and Phone Call.

You can also create Custom Note Categories, that will be shared across your firm's account. In order to add a Note Category, you will need to follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Notes Settings

  2. Click the New Category button

  3. Enter the Category Name

  4. Click the Save button

When creating a note, you can add a category or you can assign the category after a note is already created.

Also, when viewing Notes, you can filter by note category or see all of your notes at once for a full timeline of the life of the matter.


Pinned Notes

Notes can be pinned, making them appear at the top of the listed notes in the Notes Dashboard, the Notes tab of a Contact's Overview Page, and the Notes tab of a Matter's Overview Page.

In order to assign a note to another firm member, simply locate the note that you would like to assign and click the ⭐ icon.
